Initially, when I took up freelancing, while juggling hard to balance the home and work life, making strict plans and on them, managing time (which was quite a difficult thing to do I must confess), my work style, varying time of work hours one thing I was ignoring was my health.

Despite working on my own terms and following my own time schedule, I wasn’t able to take out time for my health which I know was wrong thing to do. However, one fine day I told myself, enough! My pet which is named Angel-female Labrador helped me with this. Amazed?

1. Take a Walk

Being a freelancer, we indeed have that facility to work from home, sitting on the couch or some people tend to put their laptop on their laps and just go about doing their work (which is definitely not suggestive and a wrong thing to do) but then what about our health.

How many of you freelancers out their love to get out of the bed early morning when you have no alarm clocks ringing to remind you about getting up ad going to the office? Walking is one of the safest, easiest ways to burn calories and boost heart health. Make it a habit to take your dog out for a walk. Taking regular walks can also help you in many ways like, fight depression, lose weight, lower health problems, keep bones strong and mind sharp. Early morning walks are really helpful. So, stop being lazy freaks, leave your bed and go out for a walk every day.

2. Play

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy! Dogs just love playing and make us realize what we are missing. Get yourself out of the comfy couch and go out for a play. Playing is a basic human need along with sleeping and eating. Studies show that play enhances intelligence, creativity, problem-solving, and social skills. So take a cue from your dog and devote yourself to any activity you love.

3. Drink Water

Does your dog have that option to get energy drinks till the time you pour them in their water bowl? We have kept a bowl of water for our dog and whenever thirsty, after a walk, a playing session, she goes directly to the place where the bowl is placed and drinks lot of water. While working how many of you drink water? Sometimes we are so busy handling projects that we forget to drink water. Drinking water is the best way to stay hydrated.

Water gives your muscles and tissues critical fluid without adding to your calorie count. Make sure you get up at regular intervals to get the water bottle to drink in between your work and don’t bank on energy drinks. Water is the best way to stay hydrated.

4. Take Naps

I am not at all favoring lazing around by asking you to take naps. Undeniably, work is very important and productive, but you need to take some time to chill out every day as you are going to burn out faster. I have never seen my dog going from dawn to dusk without any shutting the eye. Research shows that the those who tend to take naps regularly are 37% less likely to die from heart disease and have seen increased alertness and job performance. I, personally, feel really fresh after a short nap.

5. Be Silly

Dogs do so many silly things that tend to bring smile on your face. We all are stressed to meet our deadlines and earn the living, but then that doesn’t mean you have to behave like robots and always try to be perfectionists. Do your job well but have some fun in life. Doing silly things may have serious health benefits.

Laughter is the best medicine and I am sure all of you out there believe in it. Why behave so serious after all life is not bad. Look around, your dog teaches you to do silly things and get that dose of laughter. Seeing Angel (my dog) behaving silly makes me laugh aloud and it is actually very refreshing.
